Compare PayPal and Stripe side-by-side and choose how to receive the money you raise.
Before you can launch your first fundraising Campaign, you’ll be asked to connect either a PayPal or Stripe account. Both allow you to securely receive funds with little to no holding period, but there are some key differences.
PayPal
- Payment processing fee: 2.59% + $0.49 per transaction (in the U.S.). Contact PayPal’s customer success team to confirm your fee rate.
- Discount for registered US 501(c)(3)s: 1.99% + $0.49 per transaction.
- International fees: Vary by country.
- Payout time: Funds are immediately available from the PayPal account; transfer to bank account takes 1-3 business days on average.
- Donor payment options: Debit and credit cards, PayPal.
Stripe
- Payment processing fee: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction (in the U.S.). Contact Stripe’s customer success team to confirm your fee rates.
- Discount for registered US 501(c)(3)s: Commonly 2.2% + $0.30 per transaction. Contact Stripe to confirm.
- International fees: Vary by country.
- Payout time: Depends on your payout schedule – daily and weekly options available.
- Donor payment options: Debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay.
Good to Know
- You can change the way you receive funds at any time. Any changes will be applied to all active
Campaigns on your account. - If your Campaign is already active, only new donations will go to the new account. You’ll still
have access to all previous donations in the old account.
