Discover the differences between DoJiggy-Athon and Crowdfunding campaigns.
Organizations running peer-to-peer fundraisers have two choices of campaign types. We support campaigns where your supporters can donate with a one-time donation, a recurring donation, or a per-unit-of-effort/activity pledge, depending on your campaign selection.
Here are the two peer-to-peer campaign types that are available:
- Crowdfunding – Accept one-time and recurring donations (throughout the duration of the campaign only). Donations can be accepted at any set amount, i.e. $25 or $1,000.
- Athon – Accept per-unit-of-effort or activity donations (i.e., $1 per lap or per mile) and one-time flat donations.
Both platforms support individual and team fundraising pages and a participant center with leaderboards and prizes. Both platforms also include free text to donate (in the US) and live stream capabilities.
Crowdfunding Campaigns
Most organizations select to do crowdfunding campaigns. If you are running a walkathon fundraiser or other similar type of fundraiser where you want to accept flat-rate donations, you will want to choose a crowdfunding campaign with peer-to-peer fundraising enabled. This will allow supporters and teams to join the campaign with personal fundraising pages, but the donations will be immediate and won’t depend upon the activity results of the participants. This way, you will get donations up-front and can promote monthly recurring donations.
Crowdfunding campaigns can also offer perks for donors.
Athon Campaigns
If your organization wants to track units of effort by participant, an Athon campaign is what you need. This is common for school fundraising events, such as readathons where students track minutes read. Participants and administrators can enter their units, and these units will appear on their personal fundraising page. Note that you will not receive unit of effort pledges until after the campaign is over, and finalizing a campaign requires some effort from administrators.

Pricing
The platform fees are also different for these Campaign types. For Crowdfunding campaigns, the fees are 4.9% of credit card donations, and DoJiggy-a-thons charge 6.9%. Checks are not accepted with per unit A-thon pledges because there isn’t a way to know how much the donor would be charged until after the campaign is finalized, but both campaigns can accept checks for one-time donations with no fees and are eligible for free pricing with optional donor tips.
