How can I split my donation between more than one participant?

Learn how to make one donation and credit a portion to two or more participants.

Many times parents or supporters have more than one family member or friend participating in an event and they would like to checkout once but have their donation split between multiple participants. Follow these instructions to split your donation during checkout.

Splitting a Donation

Note: This does not apply to all event types, for example A-thons work differently. You would need to add your pledge for each participant to your cart separately. They are not allocated during checkout. For Crowdfunding and most other Campaign the following will apply.

1. During Checkout continue to the card titled Select participants or teams
2. Select, Choose a Participant*
3. In the Choose a participant box, begin typing the name**, or choose the name from the dropdown.
4. Click the + Add another link and choose a different participant.
5. Add as many as you like.
6. Click Continue to advance in the checkout process.

The system will divide the total amount between each participant equally by percentage (not by dollar amount) for each participant selected. For two participants the split is an easy 50/50

All donations are rounded to a whole number, so when three participants are chosen the split is a little different to account for the impossible whole number split three ways. For example, a $100 donation split three ways would be $33.3333333 per participant, to mange the split to a whole number it is divided $33, $33 and $34. For a $300 donation, the split would be $99, $99, and $102.

You can change the percentages after you have added all participants as long as the total is equal to 100%

Good to Know

• Note: If you have chosen to Not allow Donors to change students when using sharing links, the donor must use the Donate button from the Home page of the Campaign to split a donation. It is not possible to split a donation when on a participant or team fundraising page with this option enabled.
• If you wish to allow a donor to split a donation between two or more participants after using a sharing link to reach the participant or team page, you must enable this option from the Campaign Setup, Options page, Peer-to-Peer section.

Campaign Organizer

• If you are the Campaign Organizer, you can split a donation for a donor by going to View Donations in the Campaign Management area, click the three dot menu next to the donation and choose Edit Donation. You will see controls similar to the ones above.

*Note: Terminology on these buttons may be different according to the terminology that you’ve chosen for your Campaign.

** The search box will only be available if the organizer has enabled privacy, otherwise you can choose from the dropdown.
