Learn how to edit the tax exemption notice that appears on your donors’ receipts.
A tax exemption notice is included in every donation receipt. This notice informs your donors that their donation may be tax-deductible per the 501(c) status of your organization.
There is a default tax notice in the system, but you should customize this notice as needed.
Before You Begin
- Only certain donations can be claimed as tax-deductible. For example, any donation that includes a benefit (such as raffle entries, event tickets, etc.) cannot be claimed as tax-deductible. We recommend using careful wording in your tax exemption notice, such as, “Your donation may be tax-deductible. Check with your tax professional for more details,” as this shifts the responsibility to the donor.
Customize the tax exemption notice
- Click on Settings, then Profile in the main menu on the left
- Scroll down to the card entitled Customize your tax-exempt statement for receipts.
- Edit the desired text in the notice.
- Click Save at the top right of the page.
Tax Regulations to Keep in Mind
We recommend using careful wording in your tax exemption notice.
- If your organization is using free pricing with optional donor tips, the tip amount will be pulled out as a line item on the supporter’s receipt (as below). You may wish to mention that tips are not tax-deductible in the tax exemption notice.
