How can I apply for Stripe’s nonprofit discount?
Stripe offers a discounted rate for eligible US and Canadian registered nonprofits. The basic nonprofit rate is 2.2% + $.30 for Visa / MasterCard transactions and is higher for AmEx and international cards.
Contact Stripe directly at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if your organization qualifies for this discount. If interested, you will need to furnish the following:
- The email address associated with your Stripe account
- Confirm that greater than 80% of your total payments volume be donations in order to qualify for custom nonprofit rates. Some examples of non-eligible donations include membership fees, tuition payments, ticket sales, registration fees, and auction payments.
- US organizations: Your EIN or a letter from the IRS designating your 501(c)(3) status.
- Canadian charities: A link or screenshot of your organization’s entry on the CRA website or a scanned copy of the letter confirming your organization’s nonprofit/society status.
Stripe processes these requests once a week, so it may take a few of days for them to respond. Additionally, there could also be a delay if they are experiencing a high volume of requests. We suggest following up with Stripe if you have not received a response to your initial request after 3 days.
